We adopted Penny in April of 2015 after I begged and pleaded my case to my boyfriend over the phone. My birthday was in a week and I wanted to get another dog so bad so that our mini dachshund of six years would have a companion. I had heard of the free adoption weekend the SF SPCA was having, and I saw a picture of another dog named Lola. My mom and I drove to the shelter from Napa to see Lola but when we got there they informed me that her foster parents decided to keep her. I was sad, but they said I could walk around and see if there were any other dogs I wanted to meet. Anyone who knows me, knows that it doesn’t take much to get me to do anything dog related (my friends and family call me the Crazy Puppy Mama). I walked around and spotted a tiny little tan fluffy girl named “Kassidy.” She came right to the window and I was in love. The handler walked me inside, and she immediately came up to me for pets. I knew right then that she was the one, and I could not believe anyone would not want her. See, “Kassidy” was abandoned with her litter of five puppies, and of course, the puppies were adopted first. A quick call to my boyfriend, some simple paper work, and I went home with her. It’s now been over a year since we adopted her, and we could not imagine our lives without her. She is a sweet girl who loves us so much and brings extra joy to both our lives. I cannot thank the SF SPCA enough for their warm welcome and amazingly helpful staff. We love our Penny girl!
